Background

Dr Alexander Phoon is a qualified Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons. Together with Dr Moradi, he is Park Clinic’s principal plastic surgeon.

As a fourth generation qualified surgeon, Dr Phoon’s approach is built on the essence of excellent surgical care, precision and attention to detail and the importance of communication with the patient. Being raised by a largely medical family provided a never ending source of inspiration for his pursuance of his career in plastic surgery.

‘When I was growing up, I was inspired by my father’s commitment to his patients. They were much more than patients to him. He treated them all as if they were part of his own family. That deep commitment to his patients underpins the basis of that special relationship that exists between a patient and their treating doctor’.

Dr Phoon commenced his medical training at the University of New South Wales almost 20 years ago, but it was his experience at Baragwanath Hospital at Johannesburg in South Africa that cemented his decision to become a plastic surgeon. ‘Amid all of this confronting trauma and reconstructive work, I had finally found my calling’ says Dr Phoon. ‘The dedication to a life serving those in need of medical help and it was with plastic surgery I found true purpose.’ He attained a Master of Surgery specialising in Plastic Surgery at the University of Sydney in 2005.

As part of his overseas fellowship, Dr Phoon spent 7 months working in New York, including the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Care Centre, The Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital as well as other global leaders in the field of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery around the New York and Tri-state area of USA.In 2011, Dr Phoon spent a year in Cambridge as the Senior Microsurgical Fellow, where he gained extensive experience in highly challenging breast surgery work.

When he returned to Australia, he was appointed a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the prestigious Royal Prince Alfred Hospital – one of Sydney’s most prestigious public hospitals. Dr Phoon is also a qualified facial plastic and cosmetic surgeon, specialising in facelifts, necklifts, rhinoplastys and eyelid surgery. In addition to this, he is one of the co-founders of The Breast Clinic in Sydney.

Dr Phoon has lectured both nationally and internationally and continues to push the boundaries of plastic surgical innovation, globally. Dr Phoon is heavily involved in the training of the next generation of Australian plastic surgeons both at RPAH and Sydney University. Dr Phoon has been awarded best Surgical Resident and Surgical Registrar multiple times. He credits these accolades to an understanding of the value of hard work, treating others with respect and above all, immense care for his patients and their results. He is still active in surgical teaching and mentoring upcoming surgeons. In 2013 he was awarded the Loewenthal Medal for excellence in surgical teaching.

Once meeting Dr Phoon you will be immediately put at ease by his friendly and compassionate manner. To him, every patient is an individual that deserves tailored and customised treatments. You can feel confident in the knowledge that Dr Phoon will take the time to get to know you, understand your needs and ensure you achieve the results you desire.
