Background

Dr Sophie Ricketts is a Specialist Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at  ARC Plastic Surgery with a primary interest in the face and nose.

Sophie completed her medical degree at the University of Tasmania in 2001. After graduating, she undertook training in General Surgery, followed by Plastic Surgery in Melbourne. After completing this specialist training, which included reconstructive, microsurgical and aesthetic plastic surgery, Sophie undertook a Fellowship in Craniofacial and Cosmetic Facial Surgery in Toronto,

During the Melbourne phase of her training, notable highlights include working with the plastic surgery teams responsible for separation of conjoined twins “Trishna and Krishna” at the Royal Children’s Hospital as well as the first hand transplant in Australia at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. Prior to her  overseas Fellowship, Sophie worked as a specialist at The Alfred and St Vincent’s Hospitals as well as the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. During her Clinical Research Fellowship overseas, Sophie worked primarily in facial trauma, oncological facial and cranial vault reconstruction, oculoplastics  and rhinoplasty (cosmetic, post-traumatic and cleft). The unrivalled scope of experience in Canada’s largest facial trauma centre means that she is now qualified to treat patients with complex facial trauma and post-traumatic facial deformity, as well as those patients requiring oncological facial and cranial vault reconstruction and complex rhinoplasty.

“Being a Plastic Surgeon offers an enormous variety of experience. I am lucky to have two enormously satisfying and challenging public appointments at city teaching hospitals where my focus is reconstructive plastic surgery. This is contrasted by my private practice at ARC where I see patients who have different needs. They want a “better self” to help them have the confidence and self esteem necessary to feel comfortable in themselves.

Outside of her clinical practice and research pursuits, Sophie is a keen road cyclist and member of The Jaggad Collective, a sponsored group of seven women who love to cycle and race together. She travels in the relentless search for good cycling, downhill ski locations and good food.

Sophie is available for consultation at Richmond, Werribee & Shepparton .
