Capsular Contracture - Needing advice from ladies who have had it

Recommended Posts

Had my 3 month post op check today and was told that it's a good possibility that I've developed a 'capsule' in my left breast.

I've had my suspicions that all was not going well with that breast but was holding on to hope that it was just taking longer to 'drop and fluff' or at worst that they might have to go in and release the muscle to let the implant drop a bit more. Capsular contracture was on my worst nightmare list :-(

I've been told by my surgeon to wait 6 months and hope for the best or if I feel that it'd getting worse to make an appointment sooner.

Basically, I want to ask the ladies who have had cc, what do I keep an eye out for? And when is it considered 'bad'?

My left breast is much much firmer than my other breast and it sits a lot higher.

This is not supposed to happen at 3 months post op! I have spent the last 3 months telling myself not to panic and just give it time - and then I get told today it might be worse than what I was even dreading :-(

I've had CC and I had them recently replaced in May. I then had to have one manually dropped (my choice as I felt one was sitting slightly higher then the other). The dropping process took 30mins under local so if you need this there is no down time or recovery time really. As for CC expect the implant to start to look more like a ball, sit up high and tight with associated pain. Have a google at CC images to get a good idea of what to look for. In the meantime massage the breast as this can help with the hardening of the capsule and pray for the best! Good luck.

I had cc with my first set of overs. I chose to switch to partial unders as I had visible implant edges which I hated and also for the benefits such as lower risk of cc, easier for mammogram reading, etc. I haven't had it come back touch wood. Sorry that this has happened to you.

I am nearly 5 months post op and have CC. I am having my right implant replaced in feb. Mine started to soften and then started hardening. I had an appointment at 3 months and was told to keep massaging and come back in 3 months. In that time my partner and I knew it had gotten much worse. I have pain that comes and goes, it looks really round and it hard as a rock. These tjongs happen and they dont exactly know but its fair to say it FU.CKING sucks!!!

I went with 470 textured dual plane. I contemplated going the Brazilian implants but my surgeon advised against it. I realise it wasn't his fault but can't help but think that maybe if I went with someone else this wouldn't have happened :-( He has advised me to go the same implant again if/when he has to re operate but if it happens again I'm telling him to go **** himself and ask for brazilians or cereforms.

The problem with brazilians is once they adhere to the tissue they are a mess to remove, they literally take the surrounding skin with them and there have been cases of skin grafts needed to repair this. Stick with what your surgeon advises there's nothing wrong with textured a small percent of us suffer CC but we get through it x

I need to adjust my attitude about it - just having a pity party at the moment.

I've got a 3 yr old and 1 yr old - not looking forward to going through surgery with those buggers around again!

i've put a couple photo's up if anyone wants to look and give me an opinion.

Wow, that sounds nasty..... Who did this happen to? I have never heard of this happening before.... Thought it was just a myth or Drs talking patients out of Braz by telling them they are hard to remove..... I have watched a video on youtube of Dr Fleming removing a Brazilian implant in literally under one minute lol

Ladies, in my research here, I wouldn't choose textured purely thinking you won't get CC with them... There was a study posted here a while back & the CC rates in textured & smooth weren't greatly different.... They were originally designed to lessen CC however I don't think they make a lot of difference - there have unfortunately been a few girls on the forum who have developed CC with textured implants :(

I work with someone who has told me a story or 2 about them. I know a lot of plastic surgeons don't like them because of this. Cosmetic surgeons seem to specialise in them though which is why its important to get them implanted and explanted by someone who specialises in them :)

I found the link for anyone who's interested :) Warning if you're squeamish tho lol I think the most important thing with Brazilians is to choose a surgeon who has experience & specialises in using them :)

Agree with Don, the surgeon at my second consultation told me that the Brazilian implants will turn into glue like once they adhere to the tissue, therefore they are extremely difficult for the surgeon to remove them. He also mentioned that there weren't any different between textured or smooth implants to prevent CC, the best way to reduce the CC rate is use of the highest standard of sterility and 'no touch' technique.

This might sound like a silly question- but does it all depend on the person? Or like could it be because of a surgeon?

I'm also getting mine by Stradwick and they are textured and dual plane and reading this makes me a little nervous...

Of am I silly to think it's his technique etc that could be to blame?

:/

Yeah Kashka, I think it's all about your body.... We can do things to help prevent CC, (low rate CC implants, massaging smooths etc) but no one is 100% safe from developing it. I don't believe that it has anything to do with your surgeon either.... How can you blame them if you develop CC 10 yrs down the track? I, like probably most people, used to think that you could only get it in the early healing stages but we know that isn't the case & it can develop years after surgery...

Kashka Stradwick is great, I'd trust his implant choice for you they are the experts and have a reason for choosing their specific style. CC is unlucky, there are a small few who will still get it and those who get it years down the track (like me). You can still get CC with any type of implant, its a complication of the surgery unfortunately but it's fixable so try not to fret :)

I spoke to dr fleming about if ever I needed a revision with my brazilians, the work it involves. He said it is slightly harder to remove a furry implant but its done. He is great in the field of furries. He has done 2750 implant ops with brazilians and so far he has only down 3 removals and they were because the bodies rejected tbem not because of cc. Sorry to here yr story hun and hope its sorted. Thousands of woman get breast implants and it really is just unfortunate for the small % who develop cc. Best of luck. He iz a great surgeon, I looked at him before fleming but I wanted furries and he doesn't favour them.

Stradwick told me that they (surgeons) think that cc at my early stage may be caused by infection. Told me that the implant became 'contaminated' in the brief time between opening the implant package an placing it in my body. Or it became contaminated as it was squeezed into my body. That was the only reason I have the 'what if' I went with a different surgeon this wouldn't have happened.

This is also why he has recommended to me to go with the same implant choice again. It apparently hasn't been a case of 'my body rejecting' the implant but as a result of infection. I think maybe (don't quote me as I really don't know) if you get it years down the track, it is your body rejecting the implant?

Honestly, Stradwick has been pretty good - he will cover the cost of surgery and my private health should cover the hospital fees. I am just really down that this has happened and so early on in the piece. The making of dr appointments and waiting for dr's and then waiting to get boob redone and then the wait again for it to heal. I wish I had never started this fucked up process!

There is a technique called the Keller funnel which is a no touch technique whereby the implant goes from it's sterile packaging into the sterile funnel then into your cavity and no touching the skin at any point. This technique is supposed to help stop the introduction of the skin flora into the breast pocket which can turn infectious. It's having some success however I know that KK recently has CC and her surgeon uses this method and she has smooth overs so it's honestly a bastard of a thing we're all at risk of with this surgery. Hang in there HH x
