Dr Mooney/Dr Marcells/Dr Pincock or Dr Shahidi?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I have finally made the terrifying decision to do primary rhinoplasty. I've read and watched (regret this part lol) on what to expect and what sort of results people were having. I narrowed it down to 4 surgeons: Dr Mooney/Dr Marcells/Dr Pincock or Dr Shahidi. I would like to choose 2 of them to have a consult with but I am still very confused of who to choose.

Are all ENT surgeon specializing on the nose? Do all of them do revision if something goes wrong?

Pincock seems highly recommended by people on the forums yet I don't see before and after photos on his website or any reviews with photos. Dr Mooney before and after look amazing but I heard bad reviews, why is this?

What I want to get done is to remove the bump on my nose and reduce my nostrils.

I have seen Dr.Pincock very knowledgeable. Post-operative care/ Cost is the main thing in comparison with Dr.pincock & Dr Marcells.

I have yet to see Dr.Marcells.

Hi,

I had surgery with Dr Pincock a year ago now. Looking at the website and not seeing before and after photos did make me wonder as well. But he did explain his reasons for that is he feels it is invasion of peoples privacy and that every case is going to be different. He does have before and after photos when you have your consult if you request to see them.

Dr Pincock is a perfectionist and realistic about the results you will get. Its not about taking a photo of a nose and saying "I want this". He will tailor it all to your face shape and features and make sure it doesnt look fake.

After a year I could not be happier, the results are amazing and I would never turn back. The appearence is amazing and have no issues at all with function.

Hi ladies I am looking to have revision rhinoplasty too, probably around April next year. I have narrowed my surgeon list down to Dr Marcells and Dr Pincock. If anyone can give me an idea of out of pocket cost and/or cost of consult I would really appreciate it. Feel free to PM me.

Hi kshello

I am in exactly the same position although I am leaning towards Dr P. My surgery will hopefully be late this year/very early next so I will keep you posted on my experience including out of pocket. I do have a deviated septum so hopefully I will get some $ back from medicare and my health insurance.

No you dont need to book your surgery  when the Doc gives his quotation it's valid for 12 months

Every year  Medicare reviews it's prices in November that's why prices goes up November onwards!

I met dr michael zacharia and dr pincock for rhinoplasty and I have sinus issues (deviated septum etc) so I needed an Ear Nose Throat specialist. I chose dr pincock as he was extremely thorough (usually runs late as he's thorough with the patient who is in there and you when it is your turn so be flexible about waiting for your appointment just in case). He is knowledgeable and not pushy. He made me get a new CT scan and prescribed a nasal spray before recommending sinus surgery. He has a slight arrogance which I didn't mind as he knows he's good at what he does. The cost for consult was $250 and I got around $72 back from Medicare. The follow up was $100 and I get some back. My pre op consult 2 weeks prior to op will be bulk billed. My quote included sinus stuff so might be higher than just rhino but I get a couple thousand back from Medicare.

Hi bluemoon, hope ur progress in finding the right surgeon that you feel right with, has come along well... I am very keen to hear how you went ,as I too have been looking hard and narrowed it down to either Dr shahram or Dr mooney...... I haven't stopped the research just yet, but hope to feel confident to go ahead with contacting either Doctor in the near future,... After of couse letting my general cosmetic doctor in my area know that I cant go ahead , now I realise , a specialist in rhinoplasty is the way to go, this is my face that I love and don't want to go ahead unless I am completely sure that I have found the best 'artist for my face/ nose....I would appreciate any feed back from anyone that has something of value.... Good luck to all you beauty's!

Whatever u do see a Ent or facial plastic surgeon. Do not go to a surgeon who works in boobs/body everything... The nose is the hardest place to perform surgery and unfortunately I picked an arrogant surgeon who should stick to the body and not the face. Had to get a revision too

Hi Bluemoon,

I'm considering either Dr Pincock or Dr Marcells myself. I'm very interested to know who you go with and how your consultations go!

I really recommend you check it out Drs and ask what are the specific risk of rhinoplasty. I also suggest you research the empty nose syndrome in the web. Good luck.

If it helps at all I had my rhinoplasty with dr mooney .. He does come across a little arrogant but I think he is just really confident in what he does. Had my op a few months ago and is already looking so good I'm so happy!!! Defiantley recommend him !

Hey did you end up deciding with a surgeon ? I'm tossing between Dr Marcell and dr Shahidi except I feel very uncomfortable with them doing open surgery

I had septorhinoplasty with Dr Shahidi. My bridge was basically straight to begin with, my main concern was reducing size of tip and reducing size of nostrils, and was left with a completely assymetrical result... My bridge is far worse then it was before and I don't know why he even touched the bridge really but he totally scraped away the left side and didn't touch the right. My nostrils which I wanted reduced are also asymmetrical and my tip is unchanged, not reduced. I am now searching for someone who can fix my nose which he left looking a mess and worse then it was originally. He was lovely in the consult, but hasn't wanted to hear about any of my concerns and I am shattered. I wouldn't recommend him.

That's terrible. I have noticed that a few patients in their after photos it's looks asymeterical. He does such awesome profiles but I think open surgery really plays around with the nose too much. So what are you thinking of doing now? I hope it gets better

ENT surgeons are very adequately trained to perform rhinoplasty.  I would never recommend anyone cross anyone off their list simply because they are an ENT or a Plastic Surgeon. What you should be looking for is a goof RHINOPLASTY surgeon

Peter Callan has spoken about this topic before, take a look at this video, i think its helpful to anyone thinking of Rhinoplasty

Heya cosmetic - I loved the AAFPS symposium, the deep plane facelift results looked amazing and we got some fabulous interviews with all of the keynote speakers. I learnt a lot but did lave petrified of getting older, partiualrly menopause where us lucky women will lose bone density  and continue to lose 0.5% every year after 50 - and it seemed bone loss was a huge factor in the aging face - so yes, im terrified of bone density loss lol

Also, to be back on topic, i had a consultation with Dr Shahidi for my nose and he was lovely, honest and very thorough, if not a little on the cautious side which is not a bad thing.
He spent lots of time with me, checked my breathing, i have a deviated septum like most people but i also have weak nostrils or something a rather and he was concerned id make my breathing worse doing a rhino for cosmetic reasons and advised i not have a rhinoplasty - i very much appreciated the honesty because it is your face and all of that.
Have also seen Dr Tavakoli re my nose and if i end up getting my breasts fixed ill probably get my nose done too if i can

Just out of curiosity did they mention how you can prevent or reduce bone density ?

I haven't met Dr Shahidi personally but his before and after photos posted on the internet are amazing!  From memory Dr George Marcells & Dr Green smith where two surgeons you were wanting to consult with in relation to rhinoplasty ? How did that go ?

I had two non-sugical procedures done last year PRP and silhouette thread lift and will be posting a topic   soon when I get a chance.

I'm going for a revision rhinoplasty consultation in the coming weeks and will post my experience when I get a chance!

I actually interviewed the keynote speakers from the USA and I asked them that exact questions, they laughed at me and said in the big American accent, Enjoy it whilst you have it Cas hahaha. I guess short of not going through menopause and your typical things like weight training and good diet, there isnt much yet we can do. There are surgeons like Dr Mendleson who use hydroxyapetite to repace volume.

I am still keen to have an appointment with Dr Marcells particularly because I have high risk of breathing problems after Rhinoplasty but I am pretty keen on Dr Tavakoli. I love his rhinoplasty results and he has been recommended to me as a good rhinoplasty surgeon by more then one other plastic surgeon which gives me great confidence.
