Recommended Posts

I need my wisdom teeth out . The gums flare up every couple of months.. i just read the connection between cc and dental bacteria.. do you think a gum imflamation can spread to your implants? Mine are a little flared up and i have ba on tuesday. I hope i havnt doomed myself by not getting a ba after my wisdom out

I was given a course of antibiotics during my BA - starting the day of surgery, which may help with inflamed gums - but I would mention this to your surgeon anyway, and maybe they will start you on antibiotics earlier? Also, maybe ask for antibiotics before wisdom removal?

Yes Yes !  Get antibiotics down your gullet asap !!

The danger is even when you have your teeth cleaned by the dentist.

As I have a incompetent mitral valve, I need antibiotics prophylactic, prior to ANY dental work.

Check out Sniff's posts on Bactrim.

I think is better to be safe than sorry - check with your PS as to what antibiotics you can take now, as he will give you antibiotics for your BA too, so it might as well be the same one, ad that he is also aware you have taken a loading dose the day prior to surgery.

I got a filling last week, and both Dr & Dentist said antibiotics not necessary for a filling as no 'blood work' as such, but I took the antibiotic dose anyway to be on the safe side.

Apparently the Bactrim that Sniff suggested (she took tablets totalling a 800mg loading dose) is no longer available in the sachet (how my Dr was going to prescribe it), so he wrote out a script for Cilamox (Amoxycillin) (6 tabs - sorry, forgot the strength of each), but check with your PS as to what he will be using, to keep it consistent.
