RH4K
Hi ladies just wondering when you had your BA at TCI did you have to remove all of your fake nails?
mummytotwo
Hi Im not having my op at tci but my surgeon requested that no acrylics, gels, nail polish or shellac on the thumb and two fingers of one hand. Im guessing most surgeons would have the same request ☺
AspiretoInspire
They tell you not to wear makeup or nail polish - I think they put a monitor on your finger tips. I'm guessing that would rule out acrylics.

gymjunkieboobs
Hey, I had mine at tci 3 weeks ago, they were real firm on making sure have no nails etc. I removed mine & no dramas. Would rather remove them then get there and find out since I left them on can't have surgery.

EMJ
Hi Ladies, I know your not aloud fake nails or nail polish on your fingers, but what about the toes ? Should I remove my nail polish on my toes?
Honeybee089
Hi Ladies, I know your not aloud fake nails or nail polish on your fingers, but what about the toes ? Should I remove my nail polish on my toes? I had a big op last yr and they wanted my gel/acrylic nails off just 2 fingers on my right hand. Every other finger still had gel on. No full colour polish I just went with French to look natural . I also have acrylic on my toes, that wasn't an issue
Guest
From a nurse perspective. The reason we ask not to have any acrylics or nail polishes on is because of the pulseoxymeter we put on your finger to measure your heart rate and oxygen saturation during surgery. Having anything but a clean nail bed will affect the reading and especially with acrylics it will not work. BeHappy
Liss
I asked this the other day as I wear acrylics with shellac but one toe left bare is meant to be ok! I'm with dr Tavakoli..
BeHappy
I've been told by my nurse friend that The reason why they ask to remove the nail polishes and acrylics is just in case you stop breathing. This is the first place they look at. Under your nail. It changes colour due to the lack of oxygen in the body. TallGirl

In theory yes....but as an ICU nurse, I frequently check our probes are working correctly by putting it on my own acrylic nails with Shellac and always get a good accurate waveform. My Gap checked my sats recently too without issue. I think the older crappy probes may not work as well but these days they work fine. I will check with my surgeon as I'd rather not remove my nails! EMJ
I have removed all my hand nails. Should I remove my toe nail shellac as well ?
MummyInLove
Im an Anaesthetic nurse. I dont know why they are needing you to remove nails and polish. Seems overkill to me. If they are not getting good oxygen saturations from the pulse oximeter on a finger they can either; put it on sideways on your fingertip skin; put the probe on the toe or ear; change the probe to an actual ear probe and put on ear lobe or nostril. Same results. No issues. Dont stress ladies. Ive never seen a cosmetic surgery cancelled due to acrylics or nail polish (unless it is surgery on the hand)
just_fake_it
I just had my surgery yesterday. The Cosmetic Institute requires you to have both bare index fingers but the rest of your nails on fingers and toes can have acrylic/polish etc. no dramas. It mentions it in the pre op information they give you ☺
