Anxiety disorders and BA

I have a few people very close to me with severe anxiety disorders. It is not an easy path to be on. All I would say is make sure you are upfront and honest with your surgeon about your anxiety disorder so that they can help you feel comfortable as much as possible. Deep breathing if you start to feel anxious about the surgery. Or distract your mind by going for a walk, do housework, work in the garden etc. Make sure you have the support of your friends and family - who are positive about you having a BA. Make sure you have enough sleep and remember to eat - even if it is smaller meals. Remember too that this forum is a really supportive and positive place to be so if you are having a bad day, let us know and we will be there for you. All the best for your journey. xx

I was surprisingly calm leading up to my operation and even on the day of. I just focused on all the positives and didn't let any negative thoughts into my mind. I was really just looking forward to the end result and thats all I let myself think about.

That's nice to hear you coped so well :)

Thank you so much. That means a lot. My PS is understanding about it and my mental health team are supportive too.

I have GAD but I was more excited than anxious leading up to and on the day. I did take valium starting the day after, which also helped with the pain a bit (I asked my surgeon if it was ok first). I'm not sure if you'd be able to take it before the surgery though.

I have anxiety! It was worse when I was a kid but it rears its ugly held every now and again. It did about 12 months ago but I've been on medication ever since. I was scared about everything prior to surgery and worried I would have episodes. I had to go through surgery and recover alone as I couldn't tell my family about it. Surgery has come and gone and I was completely fine! Of course I was nervous but had no episodes or anything!

You won't go backwards if you're like me Hun. If anything getting this done for myself has helped me and my self esteem, and also my overall happiness xxx
