violett
I know it is different for everyone, but I am trying to figure out how long I will need someone to stay home with me in the days following surgery. I'm not sure what I will/won't be able to do for myself and because it will involve family taking time off work I need to try and sort out what sort of help I will need during the first week and for how long. Thanks

violett
Thanks, nope no kids. Yeah I was thinking around 4-5 days. I have heard that some people can't even pull their underwear down for a couple of days?!! I am having under the muscle so I know to expect to be out of action, just wasn't sure how drastic it's going to be.
AspiretoInspire
I was under the muscle too. There was no way in hell that I wasn't going to be assisted with toileting (I think I did this the day of surgery, if not the second day). I struggled with post op but 4-5 days will be fine. The worst part was trying to sleep upright and my neck going on me!!! Good luck!!!!
Quinn
I also had under the muscle. The first day 2 days were the hardest. I needed the nurses to help me to the bathroom the first day. By the 3rd day I was up and moving around fine. You'll be able to do most things by day 4 or 5. Anything that will flex your pec muscles (opening heavy doors, driving, pulling open drawers, lifting or stretching above waist height) will hurt or be tight. I'd try to avoid doing too much too soon and rest as much as possible in the first 2 weeks to give yourself as much time as possible to recover. Good luck!! MelbGal
I needed help getting out of bed for 3-4 days. I have kids and I couldn't lift my young son for 4 weeks but for 2 weeks straight I had either my hubby with me or my mum when hubby wasn't home. It depends what your home situation is. But if I didn't need help lifting him I would have only needed help for 3-4 days
violett
Thanks for all the advice, its very helpful to hear what you've all experience, as planning helps to ease the worry! Am going in on monday 11th so it's all becoming very real, since I thought the day would never come! Will plan to have someone with me for at least 3 days and hopefully 4, then will just take it easy after that.
pink butterfly
My husband took 4 days off to help me and I am so glad he did. I needed help with showering, getting out of bed, taking my medications etc. We have kids but my youngest at the time was 7 years old so independent but still needing their own help too. donatella
I guess it's dependent on you I was independent immediately and able to do everything alone (I was washing my hair in the shower day 2). If you have kids you'll need help with them but in terms of tasks you shouldn't be doing much be resting the first week anyway I'd have someone on speed dial but if you are independent I don't think you'd need 24/7 help violett and megz1989
violett
Thanks heaps, am feeling more confident as I was imagining myself as being an invalid!! Ok, I should be alright, very reassuring.
itsmyturn
I'm with Donatella. I needed help with my kids but was completely independent by Day 2. I kept on top of my meds and walking around, getting fresh air made me feel much better. I was also under the muscle with quite large implants for my stature. It is dependant on the person but try not to stress about it too much, good luck xx megz1989 and violett
