3timesamum
Hi,I'm wondering how long your consultations went for?Did you take your partner with you?Did you take your children with you? How did you find that? Was your surgeon happy to have them in the room too? What was your experience for you initial consultation like? Thanks! stephy85
I had 2 consults they took about an hr. I got my kids looked after. I personally didn't take them because I wanted to concentrate on what the surgeon was telling me no worrying what they where doing. It is a lot of information to take in. My kids are 2 and 8 months. If your kids are older it might be easier.
pink butterfly
I didn't take my kids to any of my consults. To me, it is not an appropriate place for children especially when you are talking about something so personal with the surgeon. My kids would have worried about what the surgeons said about cutting me open and also it is a lot for a child to take on board. Just my opinion. My husband wasn't able to take time off work to come with me, so one of my girlfriends came along. She was very supportive. donatella
Please do not take children i have seen kids left in the waiting rooms I've not seen them taken in it's not a place for them you need all your attention on the consult. Definitely take your partner they can be good for remembering things
3timesamum
Thank you for your input. You have just confirmed my thoughts. I didn't ask the receptionists how long appointments were. An hour is definitely a long time!
Cupcake85
I took my daughter and partner to one consult. She was young then and happy to sit in a pram. The ps was happy for us to bring her in and if not my fiancée would have stayed with her in the waiting room. Now that she's a mischievous toddler who gets bored easily we had her looked after for my recent consult.Of course now with so many differing opinions I'm completely confused on what to do as I felt comfortable with both surgeons as well as one in the US. I say if you can get them looked after do that so hubby can concentrate on what's being said. You would be surprised how helpful they can be at remembering things you have forgotten or reminding you of a question that you had but forgot to ask. MezMoz
I took a friend who had a BA so she was great to discuss the whole experience. I had no choice but to take my 9 month old to the second and third consults but he is a very chilled baby and just sat on the floor playing with his toys. My surgeon didn't seem to mind at all. I wouldn't have taken my 4 year old though.

An hour is definitely a long time! Allow longer if you can. Surgeons and other specialists can often run late.
