Advise : Dr Robert Thomas or Perry Burstin for Septo/rhinoplasty

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am trying to decided which Dr will be best suited for Septo/Rhinoplasty between Dr Robert Thomas or Perry Burstin? They both look like wonderful amazing ENT specialists whom i would be lucky to see either of them.  i just  would be super grateful to hear from anyone who had surgery from either one or had any similar experiences, i have a deviated septum and would love to remove the bump on my nose make it a little smaller and cuter :)

Thanks so much for any help.

I have met Perry Burstin and he is just lovely, a very very nice man and he is very well regarded. He has some really good feedback here on the forum if you typed his name into the search bar you will be able to see a list of threads where he is mentioned.

Dr Stephen Kleid is also worth a mention, he is in Melb too and he comes recommended by other surgeons for his ENT work https://www.plasticsurgeryforum.com.au/directory/clinician/profile/stephen-kleid

I know it can be an expensive exercise but you should have a consult with more then one surgeon. In my opinion, you need to make a connection with your surgeon. Once you find a surgeon who is technically competent, you want to be able to have open dialogue with them and you need to feel as though they are listening to you.
In my opinion, this is just as important to a good surgical outcome and overall surgical happiness.

I can't speak of the doctors you mentioned, but I agree with 'TheFox'  you should consider seeing Dr Stephen Kleid at least for an initial consult. I travelled from Adelaide to have him do revision rhinoplasty,  after an Adelaide Plastic Surgeon destroyed my nose in 2013 (both the cosmetic appearance and function were worse). I am now 6 months post op and am so happy with the result which will apparently even get better. I just only wish i knew about him prior to having my first rhinoplasty, i would have saved alot of money, time and heartache. He really demonstrates mastery in this area.

Hi Mjones have you made a decision between Dr.Burstin and Dr.Thomas? I have seen Burstin sometime ago and considering going with him. I also need both a functional fix as well as an aesthetic job (bump removed). It sounds very much like what your concerns. Would mind sharing your thoughts and experience? Cheers Bee

Hi Fox, have you seen both Dr. Klein and Dr. Burstin? Did  you decide to go ahead with any of them? How did you find Dr. Burstin? I just had my initial consultation with him who asked me for a CT scan and another appointment with him before any decision is made. I am wondering if you could share who you picked to go with at last. Any info will be very much appreciated at this nerve-racking times. Cheers Bee

Hi Bee, I did not have a consult with either of them but have met both of them through work.
My surgery is purely cosmetic and we are very lucky that we have some fantastic surgeons in Melbourne who are good at both.

I have three surgeons that I am keen to have a consult with but I am fairly certain I will end up choosing Dr Peter Callan.

Thanks Fox. I did not have Dr. Peter Callan in my short list before but will surely consider him. I need both functional and aesthetic changes though which make the decision even more complicated to make.

I sometimes think that picking the right surgeons is less about who is the best surgeon and more about who is the best surgeon for you.

If your surgeon has the right qualifications and also experience with the surgery, before and after images that reflect work that you like then I think the only way to narrow your decision down is to pick the one you like the best out of them.

At the end of the day, you want a surgeon you feel comfortable with to communicate your goals and desires, but you also need to feel comfortable and confident enough that you can go to them if things are going great for you either.

I picked my breast augmentation surgeon on the same basis and I am so glad I did. I needed revision surgery through no fault of my surgeons but he was right there to fix my issue ASAP. I had seen how he had dealt with complications with other patients and it was how he handled this that made me confident in choosing him.

This is why i am fairly confident that I will go with Peter Callan. He is very personable and I like him a lot. I feel comfortable enough with him to communicate my goals and I have no concerns with his ability to perform the surgery.
There are some rhinoplasty videos in the blog section of this forum that you might like to watch. Pete has some great advice and I was also very impressed that he was instrumental in brining ENT surgeons and Plastic Surgeons together for the very first joint conference on Rhinoplasty, which he organised along with George Marcells

Before you see anyone, just have an appointment with Dr Patrick Walsh.  He is a medical and plastics surgeon.

I say this after seeing 4 surgeons, one is mentioned above and was negligent. I don't want to say who, but he also charges more than 12k for a revision and you have to wonder why when there are amazing people with his qualification charging half the price.

I almost gave up on my issues and already had Patrick booked way in advance so I decided to go ahead and the result was the beginning of the end. Amazing doctor.

Has anyone had rhinoplasty done by Dr Robert Thomas? or even a consult? Interested in prices as i do not have private health insurance but have had a previous trauma to my nose so hopefully can claim some back on Medicare. Would also like to reduce the size a little. Does anyone have any experience with this doctor? Before and after pictures? Cannot find much information anywhere. Thanks
