Hi, I have been researching this for a while and am quite desperate to have a BR, lift and TT. I have been told by my health fund, HCF, that they will not pay for the theatre, hospital or anaesthetists fees as the TT is not medically necessary but the BR is. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution as I do not want to have 2 surgeries?

I am in the same situation but opposite, insurance covers theatre and hospital fees for tt and hernia repair but not ba, I have to pay extra for ba hospital stay but everything is done in one surgery since you have to use anestesist anyway...your insurance will cover most if one of the surgery ba in your case is covered and you pay the extra to your surgeon and hospital just for that part that isn't covered

Hi Ranapeluda

What health fund are you with please?

I am about to have a TT (30177) which is medically required however I also want some lipo done on the thighs and the surgeon thinks its best to do both at once for recovery reasons.

I called HCF and they will not cover the 30177 at all if I want to do the thigh lipo at the same time. I said I would be happy to pay for the addition 2 hrs theatre fees but they said if I want to be covered I have to have the 2 operations at different times....

This is so disappointing, I have been told that other health funds will cover this and allow patients to pay the difference but am yet to call around.

I have hcf also , if Medicare covers it hcf does pay the remaining 75%. I have the same item number due to the extend of my hernia... but I am not getting lipo... The hospital called me to give me an estimate of ($1800) hospital stay an theatre I guess what I owe for the ba that hcf won't  pay. Go in person an keep track of when with who you spoke every time with hcf... Call also Medicare to find out if ey will cover that item if oh get lipo...
