bellevis
Okay so excuse if it's TMI ladies but I figured since a few of you mentioned thrush from antibiotics post-surgery I thought I'd share the best, most fast acting thrush home remedy in the world. If you have experienced full-blown thrush you know you would NEVER wish it on your worst enemy. I figure if you are already sore, tired, miserable from the painkillers etc the last thing you want is a bad attack of thrush! I figure given how prone I am to it I'm a fair authority on the matter lol, so my pain is your gain! WHAT TO DO: If you have had thrush before you know what it feels like, if you haven't, basically if you are on antibiotics, the second you become aware of your vagina feeling uncomfortable, a bit prickly or like you need to "adjust" your knickers frequently, get thee to a chemist pronto and get a once-off oral thrush tablet like Diflucan or Fluconazole. This usually takes about 2 days to become effective and if you just leave it at that your thrush will get WAY worse before it gets better, so while you are out, grab a tub of natural Greek yoghurt, and a bottle of Tea Tree Oil, and a packet of slim tampons. Sprinkle about 10-15 drops of the tea tree oil into the yoghurt, dip the tampon in then quickly insert as per normal. The cold yoghurt and cooling sensation of the tea tree oil will soothe the itch and burn, and subside the symptoms quickly. Change the tampon for a fresh one on the hour. Keep it up for about 4 days, or until you are SURE it's gone. Even if you only start this once your thrush is really bad, you will feel a massive drop in symptoms within about 12 hours. For immediate relief of symptoms, put one of your ice packs between your legs, and take a few Panadol. Wear cotton knickers and PJ pants, no tight clothing, and change your towel EVERY time you use it. This works because thrush is a fungal infection, and tea-tree oil is a powerful anti-fungal treatment, combined with the "good" bacteria in the Greek yoghurt, it will quickly and effectively restore balance. Tea tree oil and natural Greek yoghurt are perfectly safe to use inside your vagina. You can also throw some tea tree oil into your wash to help sterilize your knickers & towels while you have a thrush infection as well. I promise you, this works a million times better than any of the pessaries or creams from the chemist, and is much cheaper and better for your body!! I hope this helps ladies! SmallJoy
Wow! I've never heard of this but I'll definitely be giving it a go if I find myself in trouble! I've only had thrush once before and I'd do anything to avoid it again! Oh wow was that an uncomfortable time! Thanks for this information. Very helpful

BellaM
Thank you, thank you thank you, I have already bought the diflucan and some pressaries as I myself suffer chronic reoccurring thrush in summer and whenever on ab's so I have been more worried about this than the pain of surgery...lol! I will be getting some yoghurt and tea tree day before to have on hand, thanks again
bellevis
My pleasure! Honestly nothing works faster or more effectively. I am exactly the same, I get it at least once every 2 months, it's so unfair haha!

bellevis
I don't know... I never wear pads! It sounds especially wrong to me being a vegan but the idea of thrush is more disgusting so I happily do it haha!

Ace80
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I prefer homeopathy or alternative meds than the chemical drug as I had a very bad case of UTI before. My GP been given me antibiotic to me in four different occasions until I have swollen lymp nodes at my groin and still failed to treat it. Somebody reccomended me the 21cent. 100% pure Cranberry juice, it only took two big bottle in get rid of the bacterial once and for all. It was 4 years ago, until now, I never have UTI again. I had a very serious one like having blood urine..... and it kept coming back after I finished my antibiotic. Bellevis, I have put the slim tampoon, greek yogurt and tea tree oil in my list. Thanks!!! Somebody talked about taking counter antibiotic pill in this forum so that our good bac. can survive...but I am not sure what it is. How about taking probiotic during the recovery as well? Do you think, the probiotic will help too?
bellevis
Probiotics are designed to counter the antibiotics so the good bacteria can survive but DAMN they are expensive! I usually just use this remedy as a preventative measure anyway while i am on antibiotics.
Ace80
Good idea, Bellevis! Will definitely take the probiotic during my recovery. Yes, they are expensive and it is like vit.c you have to take everday, not good for the cost but we can get probiotic from yogurt and everyday foods. We might need extra during our recovery...like a booster.
Kitteh
I get thrush so it's good to know another remedy to put in the memory bank for next time. A vinegar/water douche or even sitting in a dish of it is also good for relief. The thought of two weeks of antibiotics after a BA is freaking me out because I know I'll end up with it. For those who don't like to wear pads and worry about tampons overnight you could try a menstural cup. I was a bit leery of them at first but am a convert after realizing how much of a difference they made to my bits.
