Billychic
Hey I had planned 2weeks off to get my BA done but my plan has been changed which is out of my control and I might have to return to work on the 6th day will this be long enough? BA2012
Hey Billychic! What kind of work do you do? I have a desk job so my work isn't physical compared to say a personal trainer! I am having my surgery on a Monday and my surgeon said I will be fine to return to work by the following Monday. He did mention that I may struggle to complete the full 8 hour day as I might find myself feeling tired. Everyone is different though and like I said it really depends on the type of work you do. hmk1992
Hi Billychic.. I took 2 weeks off and i have an admin job but i honestly think i could have gone back the week after my op but i milked the extra week to make sure i was 100%. I totally agree with cbrni it depends on your work and what you do.. does you work know your having the op? at least if they do if your finding some task difficult they will help you knowing what you have just ha done, i think it would be a little difficult if they weren't aware and you couldn't ask for the extra help. Billychic
Hey hmk yeh I know what u mean but no I'm not telling my work the industry I'm in is very *****y and if I was to tell one person about 400 would know I work for a very big company and everybody knows everybody i guess I'll just see how I go and if I have to go home early so be it I guess Iv got heaps of sick leave oh it's all so hard lol
hmk1992
I think if you can post pone it try, if not then maybe just let them know, at least if they are aware you may not have to do as much as usual. I would just be careful not to lift anything heavy, in saying heavy i mean 2-3kgs. I dont want to scare you but this is something to keep in mind, my nurse game me and example of a girl who got hers done and 2 weeks after went to a market and had a stall. She lifted something that was too heavy (mind you both the doctors and nurse told her not to set the stall up until at least a month post op but she did it anyway) after lifting the object she felt something funny, the implant had shifted and she needed to go in for revision the following week. again im not trying to scare you but i think its something we forget about. if we dont feel right doing anything post op we have to speak up and LISTEN to what our doctor says. I think tell your doctor and get his opinion. after all he will tell you honestly what he thinks you should do. xx
hmk1992
if you have the sick leave maybe use it, say you have gastro or something hehe they certainly wont want you coming in then. Im sure you will be fine if you go in but do remember to take it easy as you would have just had a big surgery
BA2012
I agree, post pone it if you can! The last thing you want to do is rush it and trust me I know how annoyed you'll probably be if you have to change the date. At the end of the day you want to give your body the time it needs to recover - if I feel like I won't be able to go back to work on that Monday, I won't be! Hmk1992 - that story is a good example! I won't if i'll be able to pick up my little dog haha
Daisy_Resha
Hi Girls, i had exactly 1 week off until i returned to work, and i do a semi desk job but it still involves a bit of walking /driving around. I found this was a bit too soon for me... i think 10 days wouldve been perfect for me.
hmk1992
Hmk1992 - that story is a good example! I won't if i'll be able to pick up my little dog haha well i got a puppy the week before my op, a german Shepherd, and i couldnt lift her for ages as she weighed over 5kgs so i hadnt picked her up until yesterday

hmk1992
I know thats what i thought but it made me super carefull with the things i did... and a tip to pre-op girls who read that story, tell your family/friends/boyfriends act i did and they were extra helpful after hearing it
sandy77
I would avoid lifting, hoovering, and wiping actions- walls/mirrors is pretty difficult and sore after a week, Im only now these things,(was hoovering 2 weeks post op, but on tiles as carpets was hard going) you will be struggling physically try scam 2/3 days with stomach bug! then be very very careful! Bussogirl
I'd use your sick days, it sucks that we are judged because we get a BA, any other type of surgery and and it would be acceptable. You don't have disclose what type of surgery you had but, that fact you did have surgery, and what you are limited too. Or say you have a shoulder or back injury. That way if you need to go home early you can and stay home if need be. Good luck. Bussogirl xx
kanook
Hi there. I'm day 5 post op and I went back to my desk job today. I'm absolutely exhausted but I also have two toddlers to look after. I managed ok, and I've been lifting my youngest (2 year old) a fair bit and it's been ok. Everyone is different though. I would love to have the rest of the week off but I just don't have the leave available so I have to suck it up! I'm off to sleep now! Bex31
Yeah, have to agree..... Unfortunately for you being in a difficult position! But, if you could get the extra time off, your body will thank you for it... I don't think you'll be able to do housework etc at one week, I waited two weeks to do any of this stuff. I just re-read my own thread & I posted about how I felt at one week post op, have a look - http://www.plasticsurgeryforum.com.au/forums/showthread.php?2800-Bex-Boobies!!-My-Story-)/page6 Aww brought back memories reading that again
Billychic
Thanks girls well I have been talking to my boss and she said she wants to try to keep me in the same department for a month longer so if this happens I'll have 6days off and then I'll be on 2days of paperwork training and then ill need to work 2shifts where all I really do is paper work and relax all by myself and then I get another 3days off Im thinking I'm just Guna see what happens and if worse comes to worse just call in sick because my op has already been paid for I don't think I can put it back now and I have taken a week of leave already that will just go to waste and I'm not really a person that can just take time off to stay at home when I'm all healthy it would do my head in lol
MissCheree
I know thats what i thought but it made me super carefull with the things i did... and a tip to pre-op girls who read that story, tell your family/friends/boyfriends act i did and they were extra helpful after hearing it I am going to tell my BF this story in the morning!!! I have so far been very upbeat with minimal pain but I need to remember to take it easy and because he sees me all cheery he thinks I am fine too and rolls his eyes when I ask for help to get up LOL
hmk1992
Billychic- if you are on paper work for 2 days then have then next 3 off i think you will be all good and like youi said you can always go home 'sick' if you feel you need to MissCheree- Yess certainly show your bf, it made the world of difference when i showed mine, i think i only got his rolling his eyes once, if i didnt show him this i think it would have been a lot more often hehe xx

alison
I told my boss I was having an op and I would need 2 weeks off and he said what is the op for and I said ladies problems (It was not a lie I just didn't tell him exactly what it was) and he said ok as I am sure he was a we bit embarassed, Then he asked are you ok and I said I will be (te he). Some of the women at work have been a little bit pushy in trying to find out what the op is for so I told them I am getting a cyst cut off my ovary. I know it is a lie but they are not my boss. Does this make me a bad person. I don't want them to know my business and gossip goes around like wild fire at work.
Lozz68
'Ladies Problems' is a great line alison - i might just use that myself!! considering i work pretty much with all males i think they will leave the subject alone ... at least until i get back!! molros
I have told my boss the truth......I work with pretty much all males too but they all knew when I had it done as we had a morning tea! This time I am telling people when I come back that I had to have some time off for 'women's problems'...like you say its no one else's business and I will have a sick note. I'm not telling anyone beforehand, I just won't be in work for a week!

You don't have to tell them anything, it's none of their business!! & don't ever feel like you have to! I told the 'big boss' what I was doing at work as I felt she needed to know incase something went wrong (then & now) & needed to take more time off etc... Luckily for me she's really cool & understanding, so only her & her daughters know (they work there occasionally) but the others I did not tell! Told them I was "going interstate to visit family" for 2 weeks! Lol ...may end up telling them one day, who knows, but for now it's my little secret
molros
Exactly! And you are still having surgery, whichever way you look at it, you still need to recover from that.
