2nd Tummy Tuck Failure

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,I am new to these boards and had a tummy tuck in March 2010 which failed so i went back in and had another one in FEB 2011 which also failed. Im wondering if anyone else has had a tummy tuck that didn't quite go so well? What did you do? I think I would have buckleys chance of finding a surgeon in a different state that will fix me :(

Hi jobragidi,

So sorry to hear that you have had some negative experiences. Were they both with the same surgeon? Have you emailed your pics to any other surgeons for their opinions?

Good luck with your search xx

Hello and thank you for your reply.

Yes they were both with the same surgeon. I havent emailed pics but I have emailed a few surgeons and they wont look at me because I suppose they dont want to fix someone else's mess :(

Have you tried Dr Mark Lee in Perth? He does reconstructive surgery as well.

Hello Pisces

I haven't tried him but does he do reconstructive surgery on his patients or people who need reconstruction without having had surgery. Just asking because i have emailed some PS's but they wont work on someone who has been worked on by someone else :(

What went wrong? Depending in what whent wrong, it may be able to be fixed. There are reconstructive surgeons that specialize in fixing others mistakes, it isn't cheep but there are those that do it.

I've sent you a friend request, I had a tummy tuck in May, all went well, but I had mine overseas in Thailand

Hi mousey77,

Im not really sure what went wrong but i had it "fixed" twice so maybe it cant be fixed,I may just be the rare case... :(

I have emailed 5 surgeons in the last week,2 havent got back to me and the other 3 got back to me but said they can not help me unless i got my original surgeries done by them. Im at a loss,I wish i went to thailand and had success.

Thank You for your message :)

Hi hun, just had a look at your pics. Did you have a full muscle repair with both TTs? Was any sort of mesh used for strengthening? The after photos from your second TT look really good - so has the tummy bulged out since then?

It's very frustrating that some surgeons have said they don't want to take you on to fix someone else's work. I'm sure you'll be able to find a surgeon who specialises in doing just that :)

xx

Hi Jobragidi, sorry to hear of your troubles with your surgeries. I have looked at your photos and agree with Jen Jen the results after your second surgery look great. Your before & afters actually look very similar to mine (I think) and I'm just over 3 weeks post op.

Do you have any current photos?

I hope you can find a surgeon who is willing to give you a consult & offer you assistance. Cheers.

Hi again

Oki, spoke to my PS, he does reconstructive on other peoples surgeries, he does like you to wait till you are after 6 months PO, which I think in your case you have done, before he will do a consult.

Hello JenJen,

I did have full muscle repair with both tummy tucks, well or so i was told....My PS didn't use mesh. He said he would do it for a 3rd time with mesh but I was worried about a 3rd surgery, and now we've moved states.. Its been 18 months since my 2nd surgery and yes its completely bulged, since then. Pretty much from 4-6 weeks after surgery.

Thank You for your message :)

Hello Pisces,

OMG I'm so happy that you asked your PS,its so nice to know that someone may help me. Did you say anything about my situation or you just asked him/her a general question? Does the surgery have a website and would you mind giving me his or her name? Thank You so much :)

hi jobragidi,

Im so sorry yours failed. I have heard of this happening though Im not sure what you mean by failure.

Im pre op at the moment and have investigated every good and bad endings.

What I found most failures to be put down to is infection post op thus causing horrific scarring.

I can put you on to a few people I have been in touch with that are in post failure state if you like. They are in mixed processes from re op and never going back again.

good luck

Hello,

My scarring is fine,no infections. My belly has protruded to its pre-op state :(

I think even if i saw another PS that i would just worry it would happen again so i may just complete the tupler technique first.

I looked at your pictures, and I agree with the others that your tummy looks so much better after the second op... But if you say it's swelled more since those photos, that isnt good at all.

I wonder if he did the muscle repair properly? I'd think he would have especially at the second operation? It's very strange. They're supposed to use the stitches that they do for hernia repairs ( my PS told me that) and these stitches are supposed to be the strongest internal non disolvable stitches you can use?

If it was me I'd probably try the mesh option, you've already had 2 operations and recovered well, I'd probably risk a third one( as long as it was a free revision)

Just a thought, have you had an ultra sound done to check what is going on? If you haven't maybe you could ask your GP for a referral. The ultra sound should show the condition of your muscles, ie if you still have diastisis recti then you know for a fact the original surgeon did not do a great job...
