A question to ladies who lift heavy weights, body build or compete in bikini

Recommended Posts

Hi ladies! I am due for my surgery in mid December and I was wondering if any of you are body builders or lift heavy or compete (like me). How long did you wait until oh could do lower body workout and cardio and eventually upper body? Did you follow the doctors orders and waited the full 6 weeks? Are you limited to any chest exercise now and avoiding any chest exercise at all?

Hi I am 12 days post BA up until surgery for the past 8 months got into lifting heavy weights, my chest arms, shoulders were getting that good definition, I suffered higher than normal swelling with my implants (teardrop unders) due to my tight muscles, I have since done a little bit of reading up on this and recommendation from other lifters is to stop chest days all together at least a month before op, a lot of lifters who have a lot of breast tissue get overs as in competition due to flexing with unders can distort the muscle and implant etc, i am not at competing level I do it for fitness but I doubt in the future I will be able to bench heavy again, I think over developing chest with implants under will distort the look, I am still trying to gain more info on this myself however with my recovery so far I will be waiting the full 6 weeks before I lift any weight though cardio I will be doing from next week on and hopefully some body squats combined....

Just ensure you explain your situation to your surgeon and ask his advice on what is best for you

Hope this helps but I too would be interested to hear from anyone else who lifts about what they recommend :)

Hello.

I do a lot of weight training and also crossfit- I train about six times a week.

I emailed my surgeon about chest muscles and BAs and he said I could stop two weeks prior to surgery. I'm getting dual plane tear drops in January- but my chest muscle is quite prominent and very tight so I may stop training chest earlier and really try to stretch it out prior to surgery.

Oh my goodness I didn't even think of stopping chest workouts prior to surgery. It makes sense that the chest would feel more sore and tighter since we have developed pecs. Thank you for the info girls! My surgeon suggested 2 months before chest workouts or any upper body work. Ugh thank god for cardio machines. Some bikini pros don't even work out their chest..Coz their implants make their chest prominent anyway. Thanks again for the info! Can't wait to have that abs and chest combo when I'm all healed yay

Hi! I do lots of heavy lifting/olympic lifting at CrossFit (I am a coach) and I am most worried about getting back into it after my BA in 10 days! Mostly worried I won't be able to do a bar muscle up anymore.. They may get in the way.

For performance, does anyone know if under or over is better?

I am going to be doing a lot of chest stretching in the next 10 days! I have also been doing daily yoga for the last month to prep my body for this!

Keen to hear similar stories or progress! :)

Hey girl, wow 10 days you must be crazy excited.

My surgeon said definitely dont lift anything after 8 weeks post op. 6 weeks post op i can do lower body exercises. But yes stretching of pecs and yoga sound like the smart thing to do with developed pecs like us. as soon as i told my surgeon I am going to compete in bikini on stage he said DEFINITELY UNDER MUSCLE. when you diet down you dont want your silicone shapes to show and unders look proportional and not too pornstar-obvious lol. I know a lot of competitors who got it done unders too. some did overs but ..consult your surgeon.

Eeee.. 5 more sleeps!

Thanks for the info. It's hard for me to know because I am getting them done in Phuket so I can't have a consultation until the day of the surgery! So I have probably been over thinking it.

I worry about press ups and chest press with unders. I am a PT, have a few clients who have unders and really struggle in this area. Because I am not really training for aesthetics (at the moment) but strength I'm just not sure which to go for!

Porn-star obvious is not really the look I am going for! Ha!

I am writing a blog about my whole experience, if you are interested PM me your email address and I will invite you to read (It is set to private at the moment so it can't be searched for).

:)

Thanks for the information girls. I'm a PT and love weights, so will lay off as l have only 6 sleeps. Crazy l was trying to push allot in, as l was so concerned about not training for so long! Thanks again!

Good idea abouttime, I stopped chest 4 days before my BA and as you can see from my pic the swelling and distortion from my pec muscle squeezing the implant was very sore now however however the difference is amazing yet still got my right boob that needs to relax ;) good luck not long now

I am getting overs. Would I need to stop chest work prior to BA? I would think not as the pec muscles are not being directly affected with my BA. But if anyone has any different advice please let me know

Hi Ladies, I am 10 days post op with overs, I didn't stop working chest (was doing decline push ups 2 days before) before my op and I am had no problems. Not stretching the pec muscle. Still feels weird though, but so happy with the results, and so happy that I went overs!

Kazza, I'm the same as you, got into heavy lifting in June and was getting lovely and defined, I think that's prob the reason my recovery is going quite slowly and seems quite painful still, I'm 9days post op. can't wait to get back into it, but will be giving my body the full 6-8 weeks to recover.

I was given this same information too in regards to under/over. I got partials. I have seen plenty of competitors on stage who clearly got overs, but because they have next to no body fat or breast tissue, the whole implant is clearly visible around every edge. I guess it depends if ur going to take it to competition level or plan to get a very low body fat % I also pwrsonally know of a few competitors who do have Unders, and have continued competing, and have not had distortion issues, (they probably don't train pecs much). Google some pics, might help :)

Hi ladies well I am about 6 weeks post op and started with cardio at 3weeks wearing two crop sports bra to halt any movement, this worked fine, 4weeks started with lower body workouts no weights just body squats lunges etc, 5 weeks combined cardio and lower body weighted workouts and felt amazing!!! This week Ive done a heavy weight session on legs and no pressure on chest at all, felt amazing to not walk for two days lol!!

As for my chest for me anyway I had a lot of tightness and my muscles where in complete shock and held tight to my implant now 6 weeks on I have no pain can sleep on my tummy lift and have no issues etc

I have since sort advice for getting back into upper body and have been informed that I won't need to do chest days per say anymore as obviously don't want to stress the chest muscle but instead I will be doing shoulders and tri days and then back and bi days only, no bench and no flys for me anyway....for now ;)

Will let you ladies know how I feel after weekend :)

This is was just my experience with Unders and working out chest prior to BA which I feel really contributed to my slow recovery....hindsight I would have stopped months prior ;)

Hey Sydney11, I am getting my BA on the 19th as well.... How exciting :) I stopped training my chest about a week ago. I am dreading not being able to train but I know that I have to rest up after BA for a good recovery. My goal next year is to train for competition...can't wait!

I will send you a FR so that we can follow each others progress in recovery and training.

YES we must update each other. Seeing as we both want to compete (I may compete in 2015....I still have a lot of muscle to gain), we should update our diet, cardio, training and gym clothing ;) WOOO 12 days!
