Medicare and implant rupture

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I was wondering if there is a Medicare item number associated with revision surgery due to implant rupture? More importantly, I was wondering if in this instance, my PHI would therefore cover some of the costs associated with the surgery

    Hi Thefox.
Thank you for posting your question regarding implant rupture. Fortunately, there are a few medicare item numbers that exist for surgery to correct breast implant complications (rupture, migration, capsular contracture). The specific number will depend on what clinical situation exists and what surgery is to be performed. Whether your PHI would cover some of the costs for surgery will depend on the level of cover.
It is best to have a review with a fully qualified plastic surgeon to see what needs to be done, and then check with your PHI to see if you are covered for that particular procedure and associated item number.
Hope this helps. All the very best.
