Rhinoplasty in Australia or overseas; recovery info too

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I’m starting my research for rhino and am happy to have it done here or overseas, obviously overseas is cheaper and would prefer if I can manage to do it there.

I’m after:

- 2 recommendations for surgeons in Melbourne

- 2 recommendations for surgeons overseas ie Thailand (im already considering Dr Montein)

- what is the general cost in Melbourne?

- general cost overseas?

- after surgery, how long is it generally when you can be out in public without bandages/bruising etc where it’s not obvious you’ve had work done.

- if done overseas, is it best to go with a company that arranges it all for you or can it be done successfully on your own?

any information would be greatly appreciated

Any post complication that may arise you would want to be close as possible to you’re surgeon so they can manage it. The nose is so delicate

I met a girl in bangkok last year who had surgery with Dr Montien and she looked amazing - I have met him and he seems to be talented at what he does, speaks good english and has lots of happy patients.

For me, some big concerns would be post op visits for rhinoplasty, i know some local surgeons here who wont perform rhinoplasty on interstate patients because of difficultly with follow up appointments.
Also, whilst Dr Montien speaks good english, the other doctors such as anaethetists and nurses do not and that would bother me a lot.

Around 2 weeks seems to be the time to get 'out and about', after swelling and bruising has diminished: https://www.8west.ca/rhinoplasty/how-much-time-should-i-take-off-work-for-rhinoplasty/

Not to discourage you from going overseas but I do agree with the others about follow-up. That is one of the main reasons why I chose to have my surgery locally. Unfortunately, not having your surgeon close by in case of a later complication is the trade-off of having your surgery performed overseas.

@mikk has been researching rhinoplasty surgeons in Melbourne perhaps he can suggest some? Average cost for primary rhinoplasty in Australia is around $15,000 without healfund.

The 3 I have shortlisted for appointments (Although I wont know for sure till I see patient before and afters in the consult) are:

Howard Webster

Patrick Walsh

Jeremy Richardson

Someone else may have come up with different names, and they could be right as well. This is just my own research.
