I know there are a lot of lurkers on these forums, but I'd really appreciate some advice because I have no one else to ask History: I had a rhino/septoplasty from a Melbourne-based very popular/well spoken of surgeon on these forums, one of the only surgeons who had very little criticism. This was my first surgery, so I researched for over a year before deciding to go ahead with it and spared no expense (since I'd be saving for so long) to have what I thought was the best surgeon work on me (just under 20k, including skin graph because of the thinness of my skin over my nose) Issues: I had some cosmetic concerns straight after the removal of the bandage initially, but I was told it was just swelling. I was told it will be about a year until I see my final results, and I'm pretty disappointed, my nose bridge appears wider (which was never discussed), and my nose is still very large side-on which was the initial issue I had with my nose. However, there is no doubt it looks better, but I'm still disappointed. The biggest issue, however, is that my breathing through my right-side nostril has slowly gotten even worse than it was pre-surgery, making it uncomfortable to sleep on my right side and often making me feel short of breath. Need advice: I'm unsure of what the best course of action would be now? I've already inquired about a consult about the issue now, it will have to be a Skype consult since I've moved from Melbourne to Sydney. I was told that my nose issues would be difficult, and I'm so worried now that now that I need a revision it could go even worse. Should I try to go back to the initial doctor to go under surgery again, given he has experience working on my nose and the complications around it, or should I see a different doctor for revision? The surgeon is known for doing revisions, and has been discussed/reccomended in the revision rhinoplasty forum. Not having a revision at this point doesn't really seem like an option given I'm disappointed with the look and functionality of my nose. pink butterfly 1,511 Posted August 8, 2023 Report Share Posted August 8, 2023 I haven't had a rhinoplasty........but just from reading your words, it sounds like the main issue is one of not breathing properly and that you even feel short of breath when sleeping which is a concern. Maybe do the Skype consult with the original surgeon and see what he says. You could also have consults with other PS to see what their recommendation would be. TheFox 101 Posted August 18, 2023 Report Share Posted August 18, 2023 I think you should definitely go back to your original surgeon for his opinion and i would try and fly from Sydney to Melbourne for the day for a proper in person consult. I can tell you that even the best rhinoplasty surgeons in the world have complications/unforeseeable results. The way the tissue is going to heal, the scar formation etc etc can all have bearings on the final result. A good rhinoplasty surgeon is not going to fob you off and should be adequately equipped to deal with the complication. In fact, this is a pivotal factor for me when deciding on a surgeon. If he has a stellar reputation then i am sure this is for no reason. I would see what he has to say before you consider someone else Quote Link to post Share on other sites

After having a Skype consult with my surgeon I have decided to fly into Melbourne to see them again where it is likely we'll decide what the issue is/a date for a revision. Birdy 19 Posted November 23, 2023 Author Report Share Posted November 23, 2023 Just an update on anyone who was following this thread, I've since had the revision and am very happy with the results. Apparently a little bit of fat was added to my nose during the first procedure (where I was a unweight), having since gained weight since then it caused the fat to grow quite a lot in my nose. It explains a lot, my nose looked liked the swelling never went down, which makes sense because over the year as the swelling was supposed to go down it was counteracted by gaining weight. Since the revision I've being able to breathe perfectly again, and I'm much happier with the results 2 months post revision. I'll update when my nose has healed even further. Birdy 19 Posted April 11, 2024 Author Report Share Posted April 11, 2024 (edited) Just an update on this many months on, this forum was a great resource to me so I know it will help someone else, I'm very happy with my nose after the revision. I've had no issue and with the swelling gone down it looks fantastic, looking at my old photos I didn't even realise how bad it was before. My surgeon was very accommodating and it was clear that it's important to him that I was happy with my result, for the revision I believe I was only charged a small fee (comparatively to the initial operation) to cover the hospital and anesthetic. I've had quite a few people message me about which doctor I saw, and now that I know for sure I can stand behind him and say I'm pleased with my outcome the doctor was Dr [removed for now] Edited January 10 by Birdy new update WillT and pink butterfly 1 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
