Explant surgery & fat grafting

Recommended Posts

Hello all, it's been a while since I've visited this forum ! I had my breast augmentation 3 years ago . I do experience some issues/ pain / discomfort with one of my breasts as well just don't feel comfortable with them anymore . I went back to my surgeon today to discuss explant surgery. My surgeon did suggest some fat grafting at the same time when implants come out.

anyone on here who did this ? What would you do?? Just remove the implants and hope the breast end up looking ok ? Or do fat grafting ? Any help or ideas would be awesome ?

Hey @Mona76 no personal experience to share. But I know @vlinder has had fat grafting and @TheFox has explanted and I think she's looking into smaller implants and fat grafting as well. Good luck with your research and decision xo

I had mine explanted. im not sure fat grafting alone would be very helpful to my breasts now but I can say im about 10 months post op now and they have changed quite a bit.
I will be getting my new implants soon - im hoping September - I think I will end up with 270cc but I would be over the moon if I could have 220cc. I just need some shape, not looking for volume

thanks ! did you find that your breast are looking similar as before augmentation? Obviously not straight after surgery but now ? I just unsure what to do!

they look better then before surgery actually - but I had surgery quite soon after breast feeding and i probably oculd have waited a little longer

they are different to each other now, much more so then before - i have no breast crease on one side now and its like all the breast tissue below the nipple has disappeared.

I am very much looking forward to getting new implants

Hi Mona76,

I know this reply is a little late but I too have been thinking about an explant. Especially after seeing Karissa Puka's recent video on her experience with BII, having her implants removed, and how it dramatically improved her health: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdrnkhiNF6M

I have been looking into fat grafting and am planning on having a consultation with a surgeon who specializes in this. I have quite a small frame with not much excess fat so it will be interesting to see if a fat graft is even possible for me, though he does state on his website that even slimmer frames can have some success with grafting. I would also like to know if it is better to wait till being fully healed from the explant, rather than having the fat put in straight away.

I will let you know my findings xx

Hi Elle

thanks, let me know how you go. I've been to my original surgeon and she is confident to remove the implants and do fat grafting at the same time. Just have to deceide on a date yet however with summer just around the corner I might wait until March / April next year as well save some more money ?

who are you seeing if I can ask. I have explanted almost 3 months ago now and looking at getting fat transfer. I have consulted with a few doctors already and having another phone consult tomorrow with Dr Tansley.

I have been through 3 fat grafting procedures with good result. You need more then 1 procedures due to 50% absorption rate, which makes it a rather expensive road to travel, however i had no other choice. I still needed a small (motiva) implant to match my other side..

Hope this helps? ☺️

I know I asked this befor but can't remember if you replied? Who have you had the ft with? I am consulting with dr tansley tomorrow.

can I ask how much cc he injected each time and how much scup size you went up each time?

sorry cant help you with that, as he is a man of VERY few words, but it was VERY slow as my goo side is a D size. It also depends on your donor site, and if he would inject too much your existing tissue can die.

But perhaps, i went from B to C ???

Thanks thats all I needed really.

Oh interesting! I'm not sure I can afford to get them done together at this stage, having the implants out would be a huge relief by itself! Will let you know what he says as I have a consult on Monday :)

Who are you consulting with?

I know that Dr Alan Kalus performs autologus fat transfer to the breast for augmentation - I had the pleasure of hearing his talk at the ISAPS conference last month.
We have a video interview with him going live on the site this month, I will be sure to share when it is live

A surgeon in Auckland, David Crabb. He appears to be one of the pioneers for breast augmentation via fat grafting here, mainly for breast reconstruction. Also seems fairly educated in BII and keeping up with the research on it.
