Costs for a good melbourne surgeon....

Guest

Recommended Posts

I was just about ready to pack my bag and head off to Thailand for BA but after many hours of research I just can't shake my nervousness about the lack of post op care.

So I now find myself with a fairly low budget of approx $10,000 to get my new boobies here in oz. I can travel but I would really prefer to stay in melbourne if anyone on this site can recommend a surgeon.

I would be really gateful for any feedback.

hi nicnac,

i went to see richard maxwell for my first consult and i got quoted just under $11k for evrything...

i'm guessing to see craig rubinstein my quote will be close to $14k...

i will make my decision after seeing craig, but i wasn't completely happy with my first consult with richard and there isn't much feedback on him here, so i'm more inclined to have craig perform surgery!

Hi, my TT surgeon might be worth a try, Dean White. He did a great job of my TT, and was reasonably priced. Kind of wished I'd asked about BA and TT at same time, but at the time wasn't totally sure about have BA. Also I think George Mason comes down from Sydney and is reasonably priced, might be worth a consult? Keep shopping about, as they don't all charge crazy prices, but can be quite good ..... just not the big name.

I think if you go for a cosmetic surgeon over a plastic surgeon it is alot cheaper. My sister had a consult with Dr. Tony Prochazka and was quoted 11k with no overnight hospital stay.

Im having a consult with Dr Mark Ashton, a friend also had BA done with him and she paid 13k.

Would you consider getting a small personal loan to cover the rest? Or else i think Dr Craig Rubenstein have low interest finance available also.

Hope this helps

Thank you all so much for the valuable feedback. I have seen some really cheap prices with the cosmetic surgeons but again that makes me nervous. Maybe I should do a post asking for any girls who have used a cosmetic surgeon??

I'll keep researching but if it really gets tricky I'll just have to find the extra money.

yes there is the PS vs cosmetic surgeon debate, I think there are good and average and bad in both! I wouldn't totally discount Cosmetic surgeon completely based on the arguement, as there are some brilliant ones that specialize in BA's and have brilliant results (for example Dr Harwood), and there are some PS who rarely do BA's and although are good surgeons, may not be as experienced in doing BA's. You are doing the right thing by doing heaps of research, and when you choose a surgeon (be it PS or cosmetic), be sure you are comfortable with them and that you can afford it. You may also want to check what sort of guarantee you get, as I you have a tight budget and if you developed complications, you will want to have some assurance that it will be dealt with with minimal expense. If you go for brazlians, you may have more peace of mind regarding capsular contracture, and rotation (if you go for anatomicals) as they have a very low cc rate and are guaranteed not the rotate. Obviously the expertise of the surgeon is one of the biggest considerations.

good luck

Chacha you're a wealth of knowledge... I LOVE IT!!!!

You have also previously mentioned George Mason (I think he is a cosmetic surgeon). Do you know enough about him to advise me if I should book a consult with him?

Also do you have to have the Brazilians in order to reduce risks or are any of the textured implants a pretty good option?

I think Chacha has made a lot of really great points.

I went with Dr Preketes, an accredited plastic surgeon as I've seen lots of first hand evidence of his surgical expertise and felt completely safe in his hands. An important consideration for me was what happens if there are complications. It was important to me to feel safe in the knowledge that the therapeutic relationship continues after the surgery. I wanted to be completely secure in the knowledge that if something went wrong/goes wrong, my surgeon is:

1. easily accessible at short notice and

2. Can do something about it (ie admission rights into hospital etc)

As for the Brazilian v's regular textured implants, I went for the regular silimed textured kind that have been used with safety for many years. If my surgeon did the polyurethane coated brazilian (which I understand are associated with a lower theoretical risk of capsular contracture) I probably would have got these. However, my understanding is also that CC rate/risk can be associated with post op haemorrhage which (I expect) would vary depending on surgical expertise. It was important to me to know my surgeon's personal CC risk. So I asked him directly and he said that he hasn't had a CC in 20 yrs. And he does a lot of BA's.

Knowledge is power. So, I'd recommend you continue to research, armed with knowledge that you're acquiring along the way. The decision to pursue a BA is something that should be made from a position of being completely informed.

Hi Nicnac, glad to be of help, but haven't had first hand knowlege of him (have read some positive experiences on here), so it would be worth contacting a few of the girls that have, as I can't vouch for him personally.

It does seem that in Melbourne BA's a charged at a premium, which is really quite annoying. As pocketrocket wisely said, arm yourself with as much info as possible, then you can make the best possible decision for your circumstances. Also try to work out your priorities of what is most important to you, then base your judgement on what fits your situation best.

Has Mark been able to give you an estimated quote yet? I can see that you are yet to decided between textured or smooth and I was wondering what your thoughts are on this?

Yep, Mark quoted just over $13k with a detailed breakdown of each component. Ie. Hospital stay, implants, anasthesia, etc.

I have decided to go with textured as it seems like they have less risk for capsule contracture and they hold shape/ stay perkier longer. If you want your boobs to fall "naturally" to the sides when you lay down, then smooth would be the way to go for you. I haven't had mine done yet tho, so this is based off the surgeon advice and from resesrch and other girls on here

Hi Nicnac,

This is my quote from Craig to give you an idea of all the components which make up the figure.

Surgeon - $8400

This is the cost of the surgeon to perform your surgery and includes review visits for 12 months, 2 x post operative bras; Tapes, soaps and 3 x Laser Fraxel treatments for scar management.

Implants - $1800

Anaesthetist - $1100

Surgical Assistant - $300

Total for surgeons cost = $11,600

Hospital Fees - $2,300

This includes theatre and overnight stay in private room.

Total of surgeons and hospital fees = $13,900

3 year guarantee:

You can choose to pay $500 for a 3 year guarantee. If within 3 years of the primary procedure there is an obvious asymmetry that was not present before surgery, capsular contracture develops, ruptured implant/s, implants sitting incorrectly you are entitled to

have this corrected. The $500 will cover the surgeon, anesthetist, implants, surgeon assistant and hospital admision.

I have chosen to get this guarantee so my final figure is = $14,400

At least this gives you an idea of all the things that contribute to the final figure

Yes I got the quite as Kara-lea and I do pay the quarantee too. Overall I am very happy with Craig and his team. I finished the three Fraxel scar treatments last week and now will wait for another 3 months for the first 6 month visit with Dr Craig. Craig was one of the four recommended by my dermatologist for BA. I was comfortable with the price and his well known of his naturalness on his jobs. He is not the most expensive yet not the cheap one. But I guess this is a serious operation for our appearance and you don't want anything to go wrong!

Thank you for that detailed info! I think I am becoming more and more confused as my knowledge grows!!!

I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

I'm so annoyed today as all the surgeons are on holidays (how inconsiderate:) and I am so desperate to start booking some consultations.

I'll be keeping a close eye on you girls....I'm so excited!!!!

Hi everyone,

I have been doing lots of research and was sure I would get brazilians and was going for Gold Coast but now after hearing about how hard they are to remove am now seriously considering normal silicone, and having it done in melbourne.

I have consult booked for march with mark Ashton and April with dr ***** **** as I have heard he is great, I think I might also have a consult with Craig Rubinstein, does anyone know what his consult costs?

These melbourne surgeons def cost more than Gold Coast,

Kylie Marie, I too need a tummy tuck but am scared of it lol

Hi KB2904,

Since I started this thread last month I have had 1 consult with Damon Thomas and yesterday had a consult with Tim Brown. Both surgeons were lovely and knowledgeable. I have a consult booked with Mark Ashton early next month and Hamish Farrow at the end of next month and I reckon that should confuse me enough.

Consults with these surgeons vary from around $200 to $300. Melbourne surgeons are more expensive but I'm really keen on having local aftercare so I'm willing to cough up for it.xxx

Hi girls,

I was told by a PS that a cosmetic surgeon doesn't have the higher level of accreditation to be allowed to perform BA under general anesthetic & have to use twilight as the private hospitals only accept a certain level of accreditation to let the PS use them. & this is why the op is cheaper coz there aren't any hospital & anestesic fees attached. He told me that dual plane can't be performed under twilight as you can't lift the muscle off the chest as the patient moves & needs to be fully sedated for it to be relaxed enough. That there's some surgeons that claim they have gone under the muscle during a twilight op when they actually haven't.... This sounds pretty crazy, would they be able to lie & how would u know if its happened to you? Would u know if it was under ur muscle or not?

I'm not saying its the truth as I don't know, just wondered if anyone else has heard this theory before? Or suspects anything

Thanx everyone for the info,

I think I will book with Craig rubenstein also then rebate sounds good.

Does anyone know why one of the surgeons names I wrote was replaced with stars? Lol I don't have a clue?? Am I not allowed to use certain names?

Because that consult is only $70 as opposed to 200? Big difference.

Nic nac when are u planning to have yours done? Has anyone been told they need a lift or am I only one with saggy boobs lol I didn't think they were THAT bad lol.

Hi Kb2904,

Does that surgeon's first name begin with "C" and his surname begin with "M"?

My understanding is that he got a few bad reviews on here so his lawyers threatened the site owner with legal action.

As a result his name is always blanked with stars.

It's a shame that even Xmas comes up as *****mas.
